Swimming Regulations

Use of all day-use pools is included with payment of entrance fee. Parks with day-use pools: Chemin-A-Haut, Lake D'Arbonne and North Toledo Bend; Bayou Segnette offers a wave pool that operates on the same schedule as swimming pools, but has a fee in addition to the park entrance fee.

Be advised of the following regulations for Louisiana State Parks' swimming pools (Title 25, Part IX, §314. Swimming):

  • All children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at any swimming area.
  • Glass containers of any kind are prohibited within any perimeter boundaries of pools, enclosed swimming areas, enclosed beach areas, water playgournds and beach parks.
  • Only Coast Guard approved Type I or Type II Personal Flotation Devices are allowed in swimming areas, with the exception of flotation devices provided at the Bayou Segnette State Park wave pool.
  • Pools are open Memorial Day weekend to August 1 and closed Monday-Wednesday for maintenance, except for holiday Mondays. When pools are open on a holiday Monday, the pools will be closed for maintenance on the Tuesday-Thursday following the holiday Monday.
  • From August 1 through Labor Day, pools will be open on modified schedules. Please check with the individual parks for specific days and hours of operation. All pool schedules are subject to change.

Beach swimming areas are open year-round at Cypremort Point, Fontainebleau, Grand Isle, Jimmie Davis Lake Bruin, Lake Claiborne, Poverty Point Reservoir and South Toledo Bend State Parks. Swimming is allowed from sunrise to sunset.

Water Playgrounds

Louisiana State Parks' water playgrounds operate Tuesdays through Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the facilities will be closed on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance. Contact the park directly, to confirm specific operating schedules. Water playgrounds are located at Bogue Chitto, Chicot, Fontainebleau, Jimmie Davis, Lake Bruin, Lake Fausse Pointe, Palmetto Island, St. Bernard, and Tickfaw State Parks.
