Popular Bogue Chitto State Park Expanding

Bogue Chitto State Park is expanding following the acquisition of new property adjacent to the park. Louisiana State Parks partnered with Trust for Public Land to close on the acquisition of the new property. With the addition, Bogue Chitto State Park will expand by more than 800 acres, from the current 1,786 acres to 2,593.6 acres, a 45% increase. This expansion was made possible, in part, with funding from the Louisiana Outdoors Forever Fund through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, which was established in 2022 to provide funding for outdoor conservation projects in Louisiana.

Preliminary plans for the expanded portion of Bogue Chitto State Park include additional equestrian trails, mountain bike trails, and hiking trails.

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Trust for Public Land. They were instrumental in assisting the Office of State Parks in securing this land to preserve it for outdoor recreation so it can be enjoyed by all visitors to the park,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

“The Louisiana Office of State Parks has created truly premier outdoor recreation opportunities for the public at Bogue Chitto State Park, and we are proud to partner in this major expansion of the park,” said Stacey Shankle, Mid-South Program Director for Trust for Public Land.  “We are so pleased to see the Louisiana Outdoors Forever Fund enabling projects like this that will benefit the people of Louisiana now and for generations to come.”

Bogue Chitto State Park is located near Franklinton in Washington Parish. For more information about Louisiana State Parks, go to LaStateParks.com or follow Louisiana State Parks on Facebook.
