Woodworking With the Ranger: Woodcraft, tradition-inspired, hands-on for everyone.
Step back into the tradition of handcraft. In this ongoing series, the Interpretive Ranger will guide you through woodworking projects that connect practical skills with the natural resources of Fontainebleau. From carving spoons and spatulas to shaping walking sticks or trying your hand at whittling, each session highlights a different project and the timeless art of working with wood.
This program will be a mix of demonstration and hands-on. There will be no electric or gas-powered tools used, only traditional hand tools. We are limited on tools. But if you have your own and have always wanted to start using them, please feel free to bring them.
Please note that this program is limited to ages 13+. Participants will be instructed on knife safety, provided basic Personal Protective Equipment, and supervised by the Interpretive Ranger. Safety is our #1 priority!
We'll meet on the back patio, or inside (weather permitting), of the Visitors Center every 2nd and 4th Sunday afternoon at 1:00p. This is a come-and-go event, visitors are welcome to drop in anytime during program hours. No registration or additional fees required. Check out our Facebook page for specific event details.
