CIVIL WAR SUMMER FOODS

August 16, 2025 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Come join us at Randolph and Buhlow for a quick look at the types of food and recipes eaten by people of the south during the Civil War! This program will focus on summer foods and all of the fresh fruit and vegetables families grew out of their kitchen gardens.

The event will begin inside our museum's library, where Interpretive Ranger Benjamin Vidrine will show off the simple canning techniques used to preserve harvests that were not eaten right away alongside the recipes made with them.

The event continues with a quick walk to our kitchen gardens to see those plants right before your eyes.
