Sam Houston Jones State Park celebrates Gator-on-the-Geaux unveiling with a Lake Charles Symphony concert
LAKE CHARLES, La. - A Gator-on-the-Geaux statue, donated by LyondellBasell, was unveiled Thursday evening, March 27, at Sam Houston Jones State Park. The event was followed by a free Lake Charles Symphony concert along the picturesque river boardwalk of the park.
LyondellBasell purchased five Gators-on-the-Geaux and gifted one to Sam Houston Jones State Park. This special Gator, painted by local artist, Morgan Allain, showcases wildlife and nature found throughout the park.
In addition, the Lake Charles Symphony and Louisiana State Parks announced plans to host future symphony concert events at the park. More information will be announced as details are finalized.
“The new Gator-on-the-Geaux statue is a beautiful new addition to the park that visitors can enjoy viewing along the river boardwalk and stop to take their picture with,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “From visitors, volunteers, businesses and leaders, the donation and concert are yet another example of the immense support of Lake Charles area that has enhanced Sam Houston Jones State Park in so many ways.”
“The LyondellBasell team was thrilled to sponsor and participate in the Symphony in the Park event here in Southwest Louisiana at the beautiful Sam Houston Jones State Park. I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who made this donation and event possible," said Tim Carnell, Louisiana Regional Site Manager. " For us, our site gator mascots symbolize our safety program, GoalZERO Awareness Through Observing & Rewarding Safety (G.A.T.O.R.S), where we prioritize operating safely with zero injuries, zero incidents, and zero accidents. For the community, this mascot will be more than just a figure or a name. It’s a reflection of who we are - our dreams, our determination, and the vibrant diversity of our community. It represents the belief that together, we are stronger than any challenge we face here in southwest Louisiana. Let this gator dedication not only be about what’s being given; it’s about what this symbol represents.”
“The Lake Charles Symphony was thrilled to bring this performance to Sam Houston Jones State Park, celebrating the deep connection between our music and culture. Music is at the heart of who we are, and we want the Symphony to be part of that conversation,” said Beth Dawdy, Lake Charles Symphony Executive Director. “With the park’s stunning natural setting and a program featuring Louisiana-inspired pieces, this was a special moment all of southwest Louisiana can take pride in. We are incredibly grateful to LyondellBasell and collaborative partners for making this opportunity possible – not only for Gifting a Gator-on-the-Geaux, but also for the LCSO to perform in this majestic park.”
