BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana State Parks is kicking off the summer season with swimming pools opening statewide for Memorial Day weekend beginning Friday, May 22. Water playgrounds and designated beach swimming areas are also open, offering families fun and affordable ways to beat the summer heat. Pools, water playgrounds and beach swimming areas are available to day visitors and overnight guests at no additional charge.
“Summer in Louisiana is all about making memories outdoors, and our state parks offer something for everyone. From pools and splash pads to beaches and boating, Louisiana State Parks are affordable destinations where families can relax, reconnect and enjoy the natural beauty of our Sportsman’s Paradise,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.
Pools are located at the following Louisiana State Parks:
- Chemin-A-Haut State Park near Bastrop
- Lake D’Arbonne State Park in Farmerville
- North Toledo Bend State Park near Zwolle
Pools will remain open through Monday, May 25, then close Tuesday through Thursday for maintenance before resuming their regular summer schedule of Thursday through Sunday operations.
Pool hours are:
- Thursday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Certified lifeguards are on duty during pool operating hours. Visitors are encouraged to check with individual parks for updated schedules, as hours may vary throughout the season. Beginning August 1 through Labor Day, pools will operate on modified schedules based on lifeguard availability.
Water playgrounds, open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., are available at the following parks:
- Bogue Chitto State Park near Franklinton
- Chicot State Park in Ville Platte
- Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville
- Jimmie Davis State Park near Chatham
- Lake Bruin State Park in St. Joseph
- Palmetto Island State Park near Abbeville
- Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in Delhi
- St. Bernard State Park in Braithwaite
- Tickfaw State Park in Springfield
Designated beach swimming areas are located at:
- Bogue Chitto State Park in Franklinton
- Cypremort Point State Park east of Franklin
- Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville
- Grand Isle State Park
- Jimmie Davis State Park in Chatham
- Lake Claiborne State Park in Homer
- Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in Delhi
- South Toledo Bend State Park near Anacoco
Beach swimming areas are open daily but are not staffed with lifeguards.
