WORLD HERITAGE DAY AT POVERTY POINT

On Saturday, April 18, 2026 visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in celebrating International World Heritage Day at Louisiana's only World Heritage Site. Gain an appreciation for the largest mounds and earthworks ever created by indigenous hunters and gatherers. Rangers will be providing hands-on atlatl demos throughout the day to showcase ancient hunting techniques. Station Archaeologist Dr. Diana Greenlee invites volunteers to assist with archaeology on fallen trees near Mound A. Visitors will have the opportunity to screen the soil from these root balls.
