Warships of the Red River Campaign

The public is invited to a program at Mansfield State Historic Site on the Red River Campaign of the Civil War. The program, set for Saturday, May 21, will incorporate slides and images as it highlights the various naval warships employed during the Red River Campaign, the Union's failed attempt to capture Shreveport, Louisiana, in the spring of 1864. Learn about the capabilities and specifications of these 19th century vessels and compare them with naval ships of today. How these warships were used during the campaign and their fate afterward will also be discussed. The program will begin at 2 p.m.
