TEACHER RESOURCE DAY
Teachers work hard every day to educate our states children. In recognition of this service, Mansfield State Historic Site would like to invite teachers to visit us to see what we can do for you. Join Mansfield State Historic Site for a special Teacher Resource Day designed to help educators bring history to life in the classroom. This professional development experience is ideal for teachers, homeschool educators, and educational leaders seeking meaningful and immersive history resources for students of all ages. A program tailored for social studies teachers will run from 10 a.m. through noon and will include a tour of the museum and a discussion regarding the resources the site can offer to aid in teaching your students about our state and its role in the American Civil War. Teachers will explore hands-on activities, curriculum-based resources, and interactive demonstrations focused on the Civil War, Louisiana history, and life in the 1860s. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the site, connect with interpreters and reenactors, and discover engaging ways to incorporate primary sources, artifacts, and historical storytelling into their lessons.
An afternoon program will be run from 1 p.m. through 3 p.m. and will cover the resources we can offer science teachers. It will kick off with a nature hike highlighting the native plant and wildlife on site. This will be followed by a discussion of the various programs we can offer that cover the earth sciences, human impact on the environment, and the Louisiana ecosystems.
The entrance fee will be waived for teachers who present a current school badge.
