PUBLIC LANDS DAY HIKE
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 28th, visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in a ranger-led hike to celebrate Public Lands Day. National Public Lands Day is traditionally the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. The ranger leading the hike will showcase the mounds, earthworks, and nature at this ancient site. Visitors are encouraged to bring gloves to help in picking up any litter along the trail. The hike begins at the museum and takes around 2 hours to complete depending on the pace of the group. Be aware that this event is weather permitting.
