Prepping the Pantry

Guests are invited to join us at Fort Jesup State Historic Site as we discuss the preparations taken in the 1800s to prepare the pantries for winter.  The program is set for Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. A living historian will discuss common food preservation methods, the types of foods available on the frontier in northwest Louisiana, as well as demonstrate food preservation techniques.  The discussion will include military rationing, and the types of food items that would have been available to both soldiers and civilians in the area.  For more information contact us at 318-256-4117.
