NATIONAL DAY OF THE ACADIANS

August 15, 2024 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Acadians' history is commemorated on National Acadian Day. It honors their history and culture while also preserving their legacy. When France founded Nova Scotia in Port Royal in 1605 as North America?s first permanent settlement, thousands of Acadians were compelled to abandon their homes and relocate as a result of the Great Upheaval, which lasted from 1755 to 1763. Many people eventually returned to the Acadian region, but others never did.
On National Acadian Day, we celebrate the unique traditions, heritage, and culture of the Acadian people, one of the oldest francophone communities in Canada, and recognize their rich contributions to our national identity here in Louisiana.
Through centuries of immense courage and determination in the face of persecution, the Acadian people have demonstrated admirable strength, courage, and resilience. Today, the thriving Acadian community continues to inspire countless people, in Canada and around the world.
Come to Longfellow Evangeline SHS to learn about these resilient Acadians and their strong ties to the culture and values that set them apart. Discover how their language, traditions, and unwavering spirit have shaped not only their own history but also continue to enrich the cultural tapestry of our global community. Join us in celebrating their enduring legacy of resilience and determination, a testament to the human spirit's ability to triumph over adversity. Operating Hours: Daily 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
