LIBRARY TALK: EXTRACTS, TEAS, & SPICES

June 17, 2026 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

This program is an outreach program held at the Jonesboro Branch Library at 10:00 a.m., and again at the Chatham branch library at 1:00 p.m. as part of the libraries programs, and is conducted by a staff member from Fort Jesup SHS. Attendees will learn about how many of the items that we take for granted in the kitchen today were created in the 1800s.  There will be a talk on items that were quite often historically considered cooking luxuries such as extracts, teas, and spices.  Guests will learn how extracts were created, how herbs were gathered and processed for spices, and how teas were often made on the frontier, especially if you ran out of those store-bought items.
