INTERNATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY DAY

October 19, 2024 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

On Saturday, October 19, visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in International Archaeology Day! This event celebrates our pursuit in learning about the prehistoric past. Attendees can expect to see ancient stone tools being made during flint knapping demos and also take part in hands-on atlatl demos from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Visitors are also invited to assist our Station Archaeology Program as they conduct a public water screening through soil from on-site excavation. Ranger-guided tram tours of the site will be provided at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Our capable staff will also be available for artifact identification programs for those who bring small collections.
