Hospital of the 1st Native Guard Regiment

Visitors are invited to experience a living history program at Audubon State Historic Site on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The program,  "Hospital of The 1st Louisiana Native Guard" allows visitors to step back into the Civil War at Audubon and experience life for a soldier in the 1st Regiment of Louisiana Native Guards U.S.  A recreated field aid station will be the backdrop for talks on medicine in the Civil war. Park staff will discuss the uniforms and weapons as well as present black powder weapon demonstrations. In addition the history of this, the first African American unit that was engaged in a major battle in the Civil War, will be discussed.
