November 09, 2024 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to connect with the ancient art of acorn cooking on Saturday November 9 at 11 AM. Before agriculture, acorns were a staple food for Indigenous peoples in North America and for various cultures throughout the world. This presentation will provide an in-depth look at the process of preparing and cooking acorns. Some prepared acorn cookies will be available for those who want to try this ancient native food!

Poverty Point World Heritage Site offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience and learn about the earthworks and those individuals who raised them from the ground between the years of 1700 and 1100 BC. The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum, film theatre, hiking trail, driving tour, tram tour and any interpretive events taking place at the site. Children (3 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free of charge.
