ACADIAN DAY

November 29, 2024 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Discover the culture, ecology and engineering behind the highly fertile Canadian farmlands Acadians reclaimed from salt marshes. Follow the Acadian journey to Louisiana following expulsion by the British 1755-1758 and explore settlement in Louisiana.
Gayle Breaux-Smith will give two presentations about Acadians. At 2:00, "Footsteps in Time" shows how the Breaux family and other Acadians were exiled from Canada and eventually resettled in Louisiana. At 3:00, "Les Aboiteaux" explores how Acadains built levee systems to create what is still today some of the most fertile farmland in North America. Both talks are in English.
Between 9:00 and 5:00, tour the museum, Acadian farmstead and Attakapas Native Plant Trail in French or English for more discoveries about Louisiana Acadian life!
