10 Year Anniversary of Poverty Point WHS

Poverty Point World Heritage Site 10 year anniversary logoIn recognition of the 10th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Poverty Point World Heritage Site is offering free admission to the site on June 22. In addition, there will be fun, engaging programs offered throughout the day.  

  • 9 a.m. -Opening remarks
  • 10 a.m.,  11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. Ranger-guided tram tours!
  • 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Water Screening - Poverty Point Station Archaeology Program will showcase live and hands-on archaeology! 
  • 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Atlatl Demonstrations: Get hands on with ancient hunting with our rangers!
  • 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Flint Knapping: Experience the creation of stone tools with our resident flint knapper!
  • Lecture Series: Featuring talks from experts held in the theater
    • 11 a.m. Diana Greenlee: Latest Developments and future research plans.
    • 1:45: p.m. Mark Brink: “Building the Park: The Poverty Point Story”
    • 2:30 p.m. Lecture on Louisiana’s Mound Building

There will be a food truck with barbecue available for purchase throughout the day! Picnic areas are available for all visitors!
