International Archaeology Day

October 16, 2021 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Poverty Point World Heritage Site invites visitors to take part in celebrating International Archaeology Day on Saturday, Oct. 16. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., there will be a variety of activities highlighting how life may have been for the native inhabitants thousands of years ago. Guests can learn about spear-throwing with an atlatl and even try it out for themselves or watch as stone tools are created during flint knapping demos. You can also assist our site archaeologists in their work. They will be conducting water screening where loads of excavated soil are washed in order to find artifacts.
