IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF AUDUBON
In the Footsteps of Audubon Saturday February 1st ,10 AM & 2 PM
Join us in exploring Oakley Plantation as John Audubon knew it.
Come to Audubon State Historic Site and follow the paths where John James Audubon once walked in 1821 during an extended guided tour. At 10 AM and 2 PM guests meet in the theater of the Interpretive Center. There a short audio visual presentation gives a background to John James Audubon. This is followed by a Park Ranger speaking on the original Audubon prints that are housed at the park. The focus will be on the creation of the prints and publication in the early 1800?s.
Next take a tour of Oakley House and see where Audubon worked and lived. This is followed by a grounds tour covering many of the plantation outbuildings. Here the focus is both on nature and on the enslaved persons who helped Audubon gather specimens for his ?Birds of America? series.
Please allow two hours for the entire presentation. There is a great deal of walking on various surfaces and stair climbing so comfortable footwear is recommended. This presentation is targeted towards adults and does not require any prior knowledge of Audubon. The program is cancelled in case of inclement weather. Reservations or registration are not required.
