Atlatl Demonstration

Learn the basic of spear throwing with an atlatl at Poverty Point World Heritage Site on Saturday, June 25. Demonstrations will take place at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. A ranger will discuss tips and techniques for using these ancient hunting tools and participants will have the opportunity to test out their abilities with the atlatl. Participants will also gain an understanding of how and why these tools were used by the ancient native peoples who inhabited the Poverty Point site over 3,500 years ago.
