Announcements & Press Releases
Chicot State Park is housing some COVID-19 patients who are recovering safely in isolation on the Northside of the park. Since the Lake Chicot Loop Trail goes through the North and the backside of the campground, all but 2-miles of that trail remain closed. It also means that only 1 backpacking site is open (#2). Here's a summary of our hiking trails and their status:
Multiple Louisiana State Parks and Historic Sites were affected by Hurricanes Laura and Delta. Nearly all parks and historic sites have recovered and reopened except for:
SAM HOUSTON JONES STATE PARK in Lake Charles. TBD, a reopening date in late 2021
If you had reservations at one of these parks, you will receive a full refund because they are closed.
For your safety, some Louisiana State Parks were closed due to power outages or storm damage from Hurricane Laura. All parks have since been reopened except for Sam Houston State Park.
Due to extensive damage, we are unsure when Sam Houston State Park in Lake Charles will reopen.
